Overview

Choosing between breeds? The comparison tool lets you place 2 to 4 breeds side by side to evaluate them across key traits. Visualizations including radar charts and bar graphs make differences easy to spot.

How to Compare Breeds

  1. Go to the comparison tool at /breeds/compare, or click "Compare Breeds" from the Breeds navigation menu.
  2. Select your first breed. Use the search dropdown to find and add a breed.
  3. Add additional breeds. Add up to 3 more breeds (4 total) using the additional search fields.
  4. Review the comparison. The tool automatically generates visual comparisons once you have selected at least 2 breeds.

What Traits Are Compared

The comparison includes:

  • Energy level — How active the breed is.
  • Trainability — How easy the breed is to train.
  • Good with kids — Family friendliness.
  • Good with pets — Compatibility with other animals.
  • Grooming needs — Maintenance level required.

Each trait is displayed in a radar chart for quick visual comparison, plus individual bar charts for detailed breakdowns. A summary card for each breed provides the full picture.

Tips

  • Compare breeds within the same size category for the most relevant comparison (e.g., Golden Retriever vs. Labrador Retriever).
  • If you are undecided on breed type entirely, try the Breed Match Quiz first.
  • After comparing, click through to any breed's full profile for more detailed information.
